Indy Doors supplies Pamex door hardware for multifamily, commercial and residential projects throughout Indianapolis and Central Indiana. Pamex was founded in 1985 and manufactures and distributes commercial door locks, exit devices, door closers, hinges, builders hardware and bath and hospitality accessories, with a product range that spans Grade 1 commercial through residential grade sets.

Pamex occupies a useful position on a hardware schedule. It covers the same categories as the premium brands at a lower price point, which makes it a practical choice for repeat unit work where the same set is being installed dozens or hundreds of times. Since 1989, Indy Doors has helped customers decide where that trade is sensible and where it is not.

Where Pamex Fits in a Hardware Budget

Very few buildings need the same grade of hardware on every opening. A main entrance, a stairwell door and a mechanical room take different loads than a unit closet or an interior passage door, and specifying the top of the catalog everywhere is a straightforward way to spend money without buying performance.

Pamex allows a schedule to be tiered honestly. Openings that need Grade 1 get Grade 1, openings that need a durable but ordinary set get one, and the savings land where they do not compromise egress, security or code compliance. That approach depends on someone reading the schedule opening by opening, which is where our involvement matters.

Pamex Product Categories

Availability varies by function, finish and grade. The categories below cover the products that appear most often on Central Indiana projects.

Locksets and Deadbolts

The lockset range covers Grade 1 mortise and cylindrical locks for commercial openings, Grade 2 cylindrical, tubular and interconnected locks widely used in apartment and condominium work, and Grade 3 residential leversets, knobsets and handlesets. Deadbolts are offered across the grades. Functions include passage, privacy, storeroom, entry and classroom, so a schedule can be built out without switching manufacturers between openings.

Exit Devices

Pamex exit devices cover the standard configurations required on egress openings, including fire rated options where the assembly calls for fire exit hardware. Selection follows the opening type, whether the door is part of a pair, the fire rating and the required outside trim function.

Door Closers

The closer range covers surface mounted units for commercial and multifamily openings, with the arm configurations and adjustments needed to meet opening force and closing speed requirements. Closer selection depends on door width and weight, the mounting condition and whether the opening sits on an accessible route.

Hinges

Pamex offers commercial hinges, residential hinges and continuous geared hinges. As with any hinge selection, the weight class and bearing type should follow the door weight, width and traffic frequency rather than the price line, since a hinge that is undersized will eventually create problems the lock and closer get blamed for.

Bath, Hospitality and Barn Door Hardware

The line extends into bath and hospitality accessories along with barn door hardware, which is useful on multifamily and hotel projects where the same vendor can cover the unit doors and the fixtures inside them. Consolidating those items reduces the number of suppliers a project has to coordinate.

Multifamily and Repeat Unit Projects

Multifamily work turns hardware into a logistics problem as much as a product problem. The same set repeats across every unit, keying has to be organized by unit, building and master level, and delivery has to line up with a construction sequence that rarely stays fixed.

Pamex maintains substantial inventory and offers keying services, which helps on projects where quantities are large and the schedule moves. Indy Doors can coordinate the keying schedule, confirm quantities against the door schedule and stage delivery so hardware arrives when the doors do rather than months early.

Grades, Codes and Where Not to Economize

Grade designations describe tested cycle counts and strength, not brand quality, and they exist so a schedule can be matched to actual use. Egress openings, fire rated assemblies, stairwells and main entrances are the places where the specification should be driven by code and traffic rather than by budget.

Accessibility requirements apply regardless of grade. Opening force, closing speed, lever operation and hardware height all have to be met on accessible routes, and those requirements do not relax because a less expensive product was selected. Indy Doors reviews these items opening by opening before a schedule is released.

Common Questions

frequently asked
questions.

  • What is the difference between Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 hardware?

The grades describe tested durability and strength, with Grade 1 rated for the highest cycle counts and the heaviest use. Grade 1 suits commercial and institutional openings, Grade 2 is common in multifamily and light commercial work and Grade 3 is residential. The correct grade follows how the opening is used.

  • Can Pamex and premium brand hardware be mixed on the same project?

Yes, and it is common. A schedule can specify premium hardware on entrances, stairwells and rated openings while using Pamex on interior and unit doors. Keying and finish need to be coordinated across the whole set so the result reads as one system rather than two.

  • Does Pamex offer fire rated exit devices?

Fire rated options are available within the exit device line. As with any rated opening, the entire assembly has to be compatible with the required rating, and fire exit hardware cannot use mechanical dogging that would prevent the door from positively latching.

  • Can keying be organized across an entire apartment building?

Yes. A keying schedule can be built with unit, building and master levels so property staff have appropriate access without compromising resident security. The schedule should be settled before hardware is ordered, since changing it afterward usually means recutting or repinning cylinders.

  • What information is needed to quote Pamex hardware?

Helpful information includes the door schedule or a list of openings, door material and thickness, the function needed at each opening, fire ratings, the required finish, keying requirements and quantities. Photos of existing hardware help when matching preparation on a replacement.
